Last of The Season (LOTS) Party Oct 2013
Persistent storm clouds were present all day and even spilled a few rain drops on the crowd as photographers from the Sumpter Valley Railroad Fall Foliage Train came together with locals to enjoy lunch and helped us celebrate the end of another wonderful season at the Sumpter Valley Dredge and State Heritage Area.
Sumpter’s own Mayor, John Young, once again answered the call to take charge of the BBQ as Friends of The Dredge provided lunch. Members of the board and others brought tasty potluck items to add to the brats and hot dogs.
Once the Sumpter Valley Railroad delivered photographers to the Dredge, everyone lined up to eat.
Once everyone got a plate full of food…it was time to recognize some special people……
OPRD Rangers and volunteers build fires to help ward off the chilly fall air…

The Sumpter Valley Dredge is now closed to tours for the season, but will reopen on May 1st. The State Heritage Area gates will be closed to vehicle traffic all winter, but off-road vehicles such as atv’s and snowmobiles, are still allowed to move through the park past the Dredge. Foot traffic is also allowed during the off season and if you haven’t seen the dredge in the fall or winter, check out the winter recreation opportunities in the State Heritage area here.
The Friends of The Dredge board will be busy all winter planning next season’s events and taking of business – the public is always welcome at each meeting. Learn more about the board here.
Hope to see you all in the spring!
